Program To Extract Files From Folders?

Postby offthewall1 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:49 pm

I have 100 folders of CD Singles and I want to extract all the files (inside the folders) into one folder.
Does anyone know of a program that can do this?

Code: Select all
for /R [source] %f in (*.*) do xcopy "%f" [destination]
Run on cmd prompt, replace [source] and [destination] appropriately.... also make sure you have enough disk space before you try to collapse it.

example
Code: Select all
for /R .\music %f in (*.*) do xcopy "%f" .\temp
If you want to move all files instead of copy do
Code: Select all
for /R [source] %f in (*.*) do move "%f" [destionation]
Thou its safer to copy, and then delete the orginal after your sure it did what you wanted.

If your not familiar with cmd prompt, and make a mistake, ctrl+C will make the program stop and go back to the cmd prompt -- then remember to clean up what ever changes it had finished before you pressed ctrl+c

That solution should work, but its way more complicated than how i've always done it.
Go to Start>Search then Browse to the top level folder with the subfolders in it. Search for *.* or *.mp3 if thats all was in the folders. Every file should then be listed in results. Cut + Paste into your new folder.
