Burnin DVDs and they keep jumpin

Postby 3lions » Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:13 pm

Hello, I am trying to burn a DVD... I have converted it no problem but no when I burn it and the it is done, I stick it in the DVD player and it is jumping all over the show. I am using Nero to burn the DVD.

The blank DVDs I am using are brand new as well so no scratches, marks etc...

Any ideas?

Cheers, 3lions

A better place to ask this question is
http://www.burnworld.com/

what happening is your converting a file form xvid or divx to mpg2(reguar dvd)

what your seeing is frames that look like the movie your watching is skipping forward.

What you need is a different file converter.
The converter your using is not putting key frames in the right locations.
So when the mpg2 decoder start looking of it's next key frame it can't find it.
The only thing it can do is jump forward in time till it find a new key frame.

How to fix it.. that I can't tell you I rip only from real dvds.
The hassle of trying to convert files types just pisses me off.

What brand of Burner? What brand of DVD blanks? I use Pioneer 111D with TYG03 and have no problems!

By jumping to you happen to mean vertical rolling. If so then you have a Pal format and your player is not able to read it.

I have had the same problem. I burn DVDs that play fine on a PC but mess up in a home player - about 20 minutes into DVD (cheap DVD-R) or 45 minutes (good disk burned faster). The solution(s) I have found:

1) Brand name DVD-Rs. I stopped buying the cheap Legacy brand and stick to Verbatim. NOTE --> DVD-R Not +R.

2) Burn SLOW. With all else the same, burning faster (8x instead of 4x) makes a DVD that won't play well in my home machines.

3) Buy a DVD Recorder for home player. NOTE --> cheap disks and/or faster burns STILL do not play well on this machine, so this might not be an issue.

Now - all the DVDs I make at home play on my home machine. And when I find an old disk that messes up (I missed a few I guess), I just re-copy it with current method. New copy plays fine.

ConvertXtoDVD works fine for me. Just be SURE to set it to NTSC or PAL in the options. Automatic lets it use the original FILE settings. I get a lot of British stuff that ConvertX tells me is PAL, so by default it wants to make a PAL disk.

hello again. I use maxell dvds which seem to be good according to a site i checked on. I do burn slowly as well. What i have done now is converted the video file and then used dvdshrink to create an .iso and then have burnt it using dvdshrink and that has worked a treat.

by jumpin, i meant that it sort of has little checks of weird bits jumping about then seems to stutter a lot.

as for PAL, i use that anyways, because that seems to be the correct format for europe.

As for convertxtodvd, i found another version of it that does not crash everytime i open it :D
