Useful/Interesting/Programs Under 1MB What Have You Got?

Postby Webby » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:26 pm

Hi all,

Just thought I like to know what I'm missing :D I myself have:

NetMeter 601kb
http://readerror.gmxhome.de/
"NetMeter is a small, customizable network bandwidth monitoring program for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/NT4/2000/XP"

Internet Traffic Report Client 318kb
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/itrc.htm
" How many times has your Internet connection been sluggish, and you wondered if it was your provider or something larger happening"

uTorrent 132kb
http://www.utorrent.com
"µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients"

Looking forward to hearing of any gems out there

With a name like that, I just had to go see. :D

But anyway, interesting thread. It immediately reminded of the useful site http://tinyapps.org

Offhand though, IrfanView comes to mind, along with 7-zip and mp3DirectCut, all under a Meg.

But yes, µtorrent is one of my faves too.

Also, this may be a meg and a half, but http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper is a very handy program to have if you want to find out the "exact" URL and protocol of certain addresses, something that traditional TCP/UDP sniffers don't do.

Oooops Did I put this in the wrong Forum  Thanks to HouseCrowd if he moved it.

Looks like 1MB may have been to generous  I found a couple more:

PeerGuardian2 840kb
http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2
"PeerGuardian 2 is Phoenix Labs’ premier IP blocker for Windows"

Tor 973kb
http://tor.eff.org
Tor: An anonymous Internet communication system

Win32Whois 38kb
http://www.gena01.com/win32whois
"Win32Whois is a free, small and efficient tool that lets you retrieve registration information for a particular domain or website"

CCleaner 528kb
http://www.ccleaner.com
"CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool"

Thanks for the other posts

kkrieger beta: http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger.html
96 kb FPS game. A hell of a game for something that fits on a floppy with room to spare. It's got heavy hardware requirements, though.
The "official" minimum specs for .kkrieger: chapter 1 beta are:

* A 1.5GHz pentium 3 / athlon or faster.
* 512MB of RAM.
* a GeForce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.
* some kind of sound hardware.
* DirectX 9.0b.

Here is a small sample:

HijackThis! - 198K
LSP Fix - 186K
Killbox - 718k
UpdateHOSTS - 45.5K
HostsToggle - 18K
TaskbarRepairToolPlus! - 176K
Clean Disk Security - 729K
AntiBlaxx - 701K
Cablenut - 204K
Daemon Tools - 799K
Gmail Notifier - 519K
DVD Decryptor - 923K
CWS Shredder - 453K
MultiRes - 149K
TuneXP - 997K
WinImage - 954K
QuickPar - 980K
A ton of crap from SysInternals (more than I care to list)
LvlLord's TCP Stack Patcher - 40K

If you want descriptions of any of the above tools, etc, you can either A) Google them B) Google them or C) Google them. I won't provide direct links because some of these tools are not for n00blets to use, no offense, but a few of them can seriously screw up your computer if not used properly (especially LSP Fix and Killbox). I have tons more (as in mutiple dvds full of tools all below 1 mb each, some for Windows, Linux, MacOSX, BSD, Amiga, BeOS and Unix), but I am tired of listing them. I tried not to dupe anyone else's listing, and if I did, I apologize:)

ive used Maxmem since i first got my old 486 with windows 95 on it. I still use it now to keep my memory running great even though im up to a gb of ram now.

Maxmem was created by AnalogX, the site has released tons of small, light weight, free, with no spyware/adware over the last 5+ years.

UltraVNC - http://www.ultravnc.com.

Its very much like RealVNC, only its free and you get more options than even the paid version. There is even a version that you can give to an end user, that gives you access, and then uninstalls itself after its been used.
