Can Toshiba hurt Sony?

Postby Paladwyn » Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:45 pm

I know we've all seen how the HD DVD and Blu-ray war is going, Microsoft and Toshiba having a feirce battle against Sony in which both sides are slashing at each other wildly.

I've come to a realization.

Didn't Sony sell its Playstation chip fabrication facilities to Toshiba?

Anybody else see where this could go? With Sony gloating over Warner going Blu-ray, what is Toshiba going to do to counter Sony, since they have the entire production of the PS3 processors in the palm of their hands?

I'm aware of lawsuits and contract obligations, but we all see where those get us.

Dont you think sony might have thought about this when working out a deal with toshiba?
Toshiba is in a handy position in that it will profit from sales of both HDDVD and blu-ray (since the PS3 is pretty much the only blu-ray player being bought), i dont see them purposely shooting themselves in the foot and no doubt get sued for breach of contract by limiting PS3 chip production.
