KaZaA v3.2.5 problems

Postby mobilegorupie » Fri Nov 24, 2006 8:46 am

I downloaded KaZaA v3.2.5, thinking it would be better than KLR. I even used an official (looking?) site: http://www.kazaa.com/us/index.htm
When i installed the program, it searched for all files to legally shared. Little did i know it took my entire hard drive and put 35,000+ flies into ONE folder. It took windows operating files, icon files, everything practically!! So when i rebooted, i couldn't because it moved my NTLDR file too....

Anyone else had this problem?

Looks like i'm going to be spending my weekend rebuilding my computer........

A warning to all not to use this program or site!!

I've learned my lesson!!!

Oh... I'm so sorry.
I'm a little too post turkey day tuckered out to
say anything coherent.!

See that list to the left on the home page.
Called Slyck Guides.
Those are the only P2P applications that are still valid.

No one should be using kazaa if for no there reason.
it loves to put malware and spyware on your system.
The virus thing unless someone has taken over their
domain name is actually unusual.

This company, kazaa was making all this noise about becoming a "legit" = "pay" music download service.

What I believe happen is that some wank used one of the
back-doors that kazaa puts on your system to install the virus. I currently don't have any test machines
running windows so I can't test this theory out.

Long story short. Don't Use Kazaa!!!

I personally recommend emule.
http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1
open source, clean, no spyware, no virus.

to all those who were kind and unkind enough to reply

Postby mobilegorupie » Fri Dec 01, 2006 8:43 am

I posted an honest question & problem and a few replies i thought were actually quite rude.
So here's the thing:
i know just enough about computers to know i don't know enough.
And obviously i'm new to this whole P2P thing. That's why i'm here asking questions. I don't know what's the best program to use since i don't spend hours and hours playing on my computer and downloading stuff. i'm not even the one that put kazaa on my computer to begin with, i'm just going with what's already there and trying to make some improvements.
So, thank you :D to the zbeast for giving me a decent answer and a huge pair of middle fingers to those that had their jollies making fun of my dilemma.

Sorry about that mobilegorupie :D

That was one of those slow days, and although it's obvious that you didn't see the funny side of it, that was one of the most humorous posts I'd read for ages. I'm also fairly sure that there were those on this forum who thought it was someone bored posting a bogus message.

What it boils down to is this: Kazaa is poison. Find the person who installed it on your machine and give them a swift kick in the derriere. And if they complain, tell them you are saving them from getting sued by the media mafia.

P.S. You shouldn't go around installing stuff on your PC without at least knowing a bit about it beforehand. A simple Google search would have at least started ringing alarm bells.

Many here love eMule, but it is slow. I like SoulSeek for music (it's easy to use).

Kazaa problems:
  • Bundled adware/spyware
  • Tons of fakes
  • Heavily monitered by the RIAA
  • File corruption thanks to weak hashing
  • Shrinking userbase
  • Trojans/viruses

...to name a few.
