is this possible?

Postby anachronon » Wed Nov 24, 2004 2:12 pm

Ok, I have an idea, and it might be really, really stupid. What I want to do is make a client that will basically eat my bandwidth alive. I want it to suck every possible ounce of processor and network time it can out of my system. My thought is that most of the current clients that I have seen/used try and connect on a single service port at a time, and cycle through a bunch until they find an open one. Then they listen on that port for new connections. Would it change the situation to make it listen on a large number of parts at once? Another question - is it possible to make a single torrent attempt to connect to multiple trackers at once? If this is impossible is it possible to make the client fool the network into thinking it is two different dittorretns by making it listen on one port(s) for one tracker and a differen port(s) for another tracker. This is all totally speculation on my part, but I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone has any ideas. If you know of a site that is specifically for bittorrent or p2p developers, please tell me what it is so i might go talk to those guys too.

i do know that in bitcomet if a tracker is down you can connect to other tracker tracking the same file. not sure if you can connect to both trackers at the same time.

It sounds like you want to run Windows XP...

But one question: Why?
