Bittorrent Tracker (Dev's Look Inside)

Postby jadedknight » Sun Oct 28, 2007 8:03 pm

Hey everyone, open source trackers are in a pretty sad state. If you are interested in developing a PHP based open source tracker with me, I am looking for developers, so hit me up.

My personal experience is mostly front end, but I can also do backend, although not as well.

apparently, you can't just think about it, you actually have to click something.

/me makes a note of this peculiar process.

PHP is not the best scripting language to use if you plan to support high peer counts. xbt and hypercube seem to handle the job quiet well, bnbt and it's variants are also pretty good trackers as well.

Yes, I was planning to build on XBT. Mainly it would be a PHP based interface on top of XBT to manage the website.

I would probably suggest using hypercube if you can. There was an announcement but the tracker proposal.

I am not sure what you mean by the last part of that :P But, can you link to hypercube, I cannot seem to find an "official" site. So far I have been playing around with XBT, if you can.. can you tell me whats better about hypercube? Thanks!

That looks interesting, so after reading the wiki, is TPB making their own front end available to anyone? Or just the tracker bit?

Update:
Yeah, I have no idea how to compile this  Also, I am looking to make a full featured tracker + front end, that can be used by single sites, so this scalability on 3+ servers etc, is not really needed. So XBT may be a better option. My idea was to make the tracker be either public or private.

I believe 40,000 peers is around the limit with PHP

Well if PHP has a limit of 40, 000 peers, XBT can be used for single sites, pub/priv, and Hypercube is for essentially very large websites with many servers (big public trackers), I think that XBT seems like a good choice.

I just need some people to help me develop it :)
