Back to Ares.

Postby Everlast » Fri Dec 28, 2007 7:35 am

After about two years playing with gnutella, torrents, irc and other networks I'd rather not mention to save myself from embarrassment, I am back with Ares.

And yes it has improved.. Alot.
- Connections are quick again.
- Searches are quick (As usual).
- Haven't found a fake or corrupted file yet. (I'm only using it for music though)
- Probably most importantly, Downloads are quick.

It is now my primary client for music. :howdy:

A while ago I was also using Ares exclusively for MP3 downloads.

It's a nice Program and network, especially I like the decentralized built-in chat function.

Ares has always been a great client. It is defiantly one of the better P2P programs. When I used it the performance was always better than that of a Gnutella client and the chat feature is also one of the more appealing features over other clients. There is still quite a lot of people using it.

I still use Ares, but I use an older version 1.9.2-3011..it was the last version before 2.0 was released.
I have no reason to upgrade till I have to..as long as I can connect & download..it works.
I have always felt that it is good to have a few clients that connect to different Networks..even though or choices are few these days.

I've actually had trouble getting decent search results from Ares lately, but that may be just me. It's an OK program, it's still in my lineup.

Whilst the main client seems popular Ares used to have a raft of home-brew type clients that folks used to connect to the chats, but with protocol and other changes made to the main client they have all but fallen by the wayside it seems.

Anyway whilst I dont use this network at all, I like the style of the Ares Galaxy programmer in going open src to beat off the Cartel, I salute you 8)

This and emule are the only traditional p2p apps I still use, albeit occasionally.
