Problems with playing downloaded movies

Postby Anchor-JIM » Wed Feb 07, 2007 4:04 pm

I recently downloaded Ares, and I started downloading movies, it was a great, perfect quality etc. But now they wont play in Ares and when I trie to play them in Windows Media Player I hear the sounds but I have no picture..

I hope someone can help me because I really want to make it work!

Sounds like you're missing codecs.

Try using one of these players instead:

GOM Player

VLC Media Player

95% of the time that a codec issue. Download VLC media player (google it, its free). Then if it still will not play properly, download a codec pack such as this all in 1 pack.
If that doesnt work, then its possible the file is corrupted. Has it completely finished downloading? Thats important, since ares lets you preview files, but if something crucial is still not downloaded it'll effect the whole file.

What is the file extention? That would help. .avi? .rm? .wmv? .mpg?

I heard that too .... some time ago now. There's been several new versions out since, so who knows ...

I find GOM plays some files that VLC won't, and vice-versa - they're both good. GOM has some very nice features and looks much better 'out of the box' than VLC .... It's personal preference really. Why not use both ... I do. :)
