TCP/ IP Patcher

Postby shadowedemons » Sun Dec 24, 2006 12:35 am

Zone Alarm asked me if I should allow Ares to use or god knows what with it.
Should I allow it?
What does it do?
Who does it connect to?
then again, if you're not on slyck then you're on sh.. :)

If you're using the open source Ares (make sure it's NOT a paid version or you're being scammed) just allow it.

Have you intentionally installed Ares on your computer in order to fileshare? Did someone else install it?

Reading this:

I'd be guessing that shadowedemons doesn't even know what Ares is, let alone what to do with it.

Okay, sorry about that.

I've just been reading some of your past posts, and it's obvious that you're not the sort of n00b who doesn't know what Ares is, so I was just about to edit my previous post.

It did seem a strange question, though.

Have you just recently installed ZoneAlarm?

You'll probably see it few more times with other applications that you'll be running for the first time since your ZoneAlarm upgrade.

As long as you know that the application was safe previously, it should be okay to just allow them in the new ZoneAlarm.

Windows limits to 10 half open ports for security. Some say this slows down p2p software that needs to connect to lots of peers.

As a result, some p2p software has started to "patch" this security measure by increasing port limit to 50, 100 or sometimes more.

ZoneAlarm is probably kicking up a fuss because security settings are being played with.
