Ares Problems

I have been using ares for a few months now and i think it is easily the best p2p program around. the problem is one day i started my computer and ran ares, when it started all the items in the transfer window were saying 'connecting' or 'searching' but they never connect so i tried to cancel them but nothing happens when i click cancel, it still says 'connecting' or 'searching'. I tried uninstalling the full program (ares), rebooting my computer and then re-installed it but all the items are still there saying 'connecting' or 'searching'. Can someone please help me as its driving me nuts because i have resorted to using limewire and it causing problems on my computer due to viruses and bugs. Thanks in advance, KellyFelly

If you search a very popular title does ares work and download? If it does, maybe the files that have stalled have no sources left on the network..... :?:

Also, just check your upload rate is not set too low, as this will also stall Ares.

yes it searches and shows results and when i click download it adds it to the transfer page but it just says 'searching' and doesnt change.

Have a look in the network settings IN ARES, use the contol panel tab IN ARES not windows. Tell us what you uploads and download setting are......

I remember setting Ares up for a friend that these must be set fairly or you will get the result you have!!

2 firewalls = NO FIREWALL at all! They just echo off eachother.

These guys might be more help.....home of the official Ares forum

You need to sort out your firewall, get help with it if you don't understand well. Firewalls are kinda important if you use windows....good luck....

Blueyonder pc guard is a AV and a firewall as I understand it, so maybe thats the way to go and loose the windows firewall (that dont like p2p much anyways)....

i have no idea how good blueyonder pc guard is - but it's a safe bet that it's far better than the windows firewall, and as ld50 says, two firewalls at once is bad. disable the windows firewall.

Kelly, i get this problem sometimes when using ares, i duno why it does this but i just leave it and then try again if i need to.

Just have the one firewall runnign and make sure the program is allowed incoming and outgoing connections by your firewall, thats all i can think.

There's good news and bad news. The good news is that in the 13 months since his post, kellyfelly has graduated from college, moved out of his parents' house, gotten married, and had a son.
The bad news is that he's been trying to connect to Ares for 13 months nonstop without any luck yet.
