Why am I getting dud Bt files?

I'm getting an old tv show with multiple episodes in a 12G file.

I'm dl'ing them one at a time from the file select in BitComet.

Some of them complete ok, some are duds and a waste of bandwidth and time.

These won't load into VLC.

Are these files duds or will trying to capture them again do better?

Are the files 100% complete? Does Bitcomet give incompletes an extension like uTorrent does? (file.avi.!ut)

If so - remove the extra extension.

No unusual file extensions and 100% complete.

Maybe they just come from different sources and got put in this one bundle. It's not like it's a dvd rip but rather from broadcast. They go back a ways to 2002 as well.

It's like there's no beginning of file marker and no time indicated but shows the same amount of space in Mb as all the ones that work: the usual 350 Mb more or less. I have seen dud in other compilations like this. Unfortunately there's no commentary at the source for any feedback from others that they might be getting the same thing.

Maybe you just don't have the codecs to play them. I use the K-Lite Codec pack off of that same page.
