MediaDefender-Defenders proudly presents 9 months worth of
internal MediaDefender emails

By releasing these emails we hope to secure the privacy and
personal integrity of all peer-to-peer users. The emails
contains information about the various tactics and technical
solutions for tracking p2p users, and disrupt p2p services.

A special thanks to Jay Maris, for circumventing there entire
email-security by forwarding all your emails to your gmail
account, and using the really highly secure password: blahbob

So here it is, we hope this is enough to create a viable
defense to the tactics used by these companies, also there
should be enough fuel to keep the p2p bloggers busy for
quite some time.

660MB of emails.....
That's a big 'ol read!

Plenty of names and email addresses in there, as well as tie-ins with organisations like the IFPI.

Rather ironically, there was no monitoring of the torrent I used to get it.

A VERY big one indeed IceCube http://torrentfreak.com/mediadefender-e ... ed-070915/

You do realize there are list upon list of fake eDonkey servers in there IC? I'm sure your friends would
love to hear about those ;) So many, i'm surprised anyone finds the real ones anymore :\

After many, many hours of reading, I still can't get my head round how much information there is. :|

It's stupid to connect randomly to servers on ED2K. It's been standard practice for years to grab a white list, then configure your client to use only those servers in the white list. You usually end up increasing your security on ED2K by a lot, but when you, in fact, do connect to a fake server, it's typically obvious immediately by bogus search results, unable to connect, lowID, etc. Usually, you turn on obfuscation and the fake servers are unable to support it. When the client can't connect, it'll move on to a server that will support obfuscation (which is usually the legit servers)

So, connecting to the ED2K network is rather easy actually, even with lists and lists of fake servers about flooding the network, you pretty much don't even notice it with some basic configuration.

Interesting, open it up in thunderbird (or another email reader) and filter them by tags. I searched for slyck, and found a whole bunch of fun stuff.

Hi media defender guys!

boy you all sure fucked up bad this time... and now everyone knows who you are, where you are, just how smart you are and exactly how much we should hate you now.

I havent laughed so hard in ages. :) Thanks. And i think its going to get even funnier in the future. heck if it was me i'd be real wary with my life now.. and thats just from the people you havent attacked personally and directly. who are lawyering up to come after you.

but then again. i'd never do your job either.. i'll stick to legally wrong and not morally wrong. bad karma and all that.

And i've still got pages n pages to read!

I'll be downloading these later today but for now I'm curious what these guys have to say about utorrent and it's alleged leaking to groups like them.

Nothing like that i've seen at all (i've read 1000's of emails) but there was this info which indicates the latest uTorrent might even be a good thing to use....

Subject: RE: utorrent

After more in-depth analysis…we’ve determined that the new version DOES affect our interdiction in a negative way. They’ve added a new “bt.ban_ratio” field that takes into consideration how many good pieces a client has uploaded. On the older version, they would just kick any peer that uploaded bad data 5+ times.

This post gives some more explanation about the bad ratio field: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php ... 90#p249190

We still see a lot of hash_check fails…but now the only peers getting banned are ours. This also affects MediaSentry’s interdicted torrents. They are no longer effective on the newest version either.

Presuming that it's ok to post this stuff here, it's public information now.

Interesting, enigmax. I wonder where all the uT alarmists are now?

Wow, this has been the best development in P2P in quite a while :).
