There is no user rating on WinMX. Most people will let you through if you're uploading - if you're not, expect to be cancelled around 20% of the time.

There's one - it's not a trick, but a surprising number of people don't bother with it: wait half a minute for the search results to fill up, sort by the number of available users, and choose the top one.
