Arse is better then WinMX. WinMX (Even the new versions) are out dated, wait.. Ares is also out dated but works 110 times better then WinMX, though Ares isn't the best.

The stealth thing my isp is doing prevents WinMx from fully connecting. I can't get any search results or download anything.

Ares was downloading a movie at over 100kbs today for over an hour.

Ares.

WinMX for the hardcore. Ares for the kids.

If the question was which one's my favourite, WinMX without a doubt, but which one is actually better? No clue. There's cons and pros with both.

Allied, any chance you could expand on what it is your ISP does? It might hold a clue to some problems other users have been having.

Even though WinMX is stuck in a rut, I still find myself on there to find a quick mp3. You can usually find high quality stuff on there.

Thats not to say I dont have Ares on my destop either. I also find it useful...It all depends on the situation...

I'm on a college lan. According to this test,
(click User-Specified Custom Port Probe)
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
every port is in stealth.
The filesharing test said
Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.
All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

Me and all my computer nerd friends have tried to find a way around it. And these are smart people working on it, 5 are taking the Cisco Certification test next week.

Our ISP won't tell us anything. Occasionally we get letters saying that they block all filesharing traffic.

The only p2p apps that don't work are Direct Connect, IRC and WinMX(plus a yellow light for torrents).

To keep this on topic, Ares always connects. I've never had to open ports or messed with a config.

I have to stay atleast for MP3s Ares is FAR better then WinMX, you'll be in a queue, Like shareaza for AGES just to get a file, not forgetting the slow speeds you'll get on WinMX. Ares is simple, fast, popular and easy to use.

I just used Ares today and before I actually install it I was wonder. Do you guys ever ahve any trouble with like spyware or any of that kind of stuff?

Oh yeah and my vote goes to Ares after just using it today. Its simple and fast, everything a p2p client should be.

Well I just got done trying both for a day and in my tests Ares was way better. The downloads started hella faster, I hardly, if ever, got queued, the speed was way better, the search brought more results, I got less fake files, I found more rare songs, it has a built in media player, and the interface is less cluttered and really to the point. Overall, Ares is superior to WinMX
