1 - No spyware, or adware
2 - Over a million users
3 - Queues, but still reasonably reliable

What is your source, and why are you spamming??

Hmm, another agent provocateur from the looks of things.
We seem to be having a spate of folks who no one has ever heard of, posting ridiculous items, I say that after visiting a few of the other WinMx forums.
The cartel of theives must think we are as short sighted as they are, get a life Xenocide.
I think also that the chat room side of things is booming with folks taking the good advice and berthing themselves in the chat
rooms for a great selection of files that cant be spoofed, the industry are just too stupid, to see, that we are in for the long haul.

no spyware, but it does suck

I would be entertained to hear your reasoning behind that Notbob, as I can think of many other P2P systems that are more deserving of the label your bandying around.

it sucks because:

fake files have all but destroyed it

obsessive users and queue managers wrecked the rest

Don't worry, their "enthusiastic development team" will save them!

Well I cant argue that the fake files are a nusiance but as I mentioned the number of chat rooms is more than on previous counts I have made, so I,m optimistic about the future , also I know a few items that you may not, the tide will be turning soon on the flooders who are primarily Japanese businesses.
I have logged Sony, Sanyo, JVC,and also Matsushita Corporation (they are the folks behind the popular names like Pioneer, Panasonic and Technics).
Its obviously no coincidence that these are the same companies pushing hard for digital rights managemnt, to increase there profits at our expense.

Back to the topic here thought, this flooding is occuring on most of the networks to a degree so its not really fair to imply its a WinMx only problem.

Whats the point of improving it if its going to be flooded so heavily, common sense would show its best to wait it out .
And also what sort of improvements would you like to see ?

it doesn't matter what you want to see, because you won't ever see it

well it isn't a problem on bt or dc, so why stay saddled to a dead horse?

I think if you check through your history, you,ll see that its so much easier for the cartel to set up fake torrent site and log addresses and the same goes for DC hubs they have nothing like the network of deniability you get with WinMx, who can say with 100% certainty where the download went, primary ? or secondary ???
Who knows and a court will be just as confused.

I ,unlike yourself concern myself with some of the technical issues and I see no chat rooms on bit torrent so its not really for helping others just yourself.
Also I like the third party products and gizmos,s that are available , its not all down to how many files I can obtain.

Obviously not lets hear your suggestions again ??

I can think of one or two but as for just making a new version for the sake of it , I feel the developers dont want to waste time until the cartel has calmed down on their activities a bit.

Geeze if the client did not need any improvements; would you need "the third party products and gizmos,s that are available" :?: :?: :?:

simple reason why you wouldn't see anything on those:

Bit Torrent you have one file/set of files, and thats it - you cant get anything else without going to a different torrent with its one file... you cant do a search to see what people have to find files in the first place

DC is terrible for finding files - ignoring the fact its hard to get started even once you do get on to decent hubs you have a few hundred or at the most a few thousand users worth of files to search! even if you ignore its centralised nature and the fact its so easy to monitor everything that happens on it its still rubbish for anything but the most popular files

but i believe you already discredited anything you say by stating that users have ruined it - its those "obssesive users" who are keeping it together by helping people (very little help from BT or DC users - and noobs really do need it with them) or by trying to get their files to people who will then share them on rather than leeches (which btw most bit torrent clients do if you wish to claim its a bad thing)

anyway - no point wasting more time pointing out the stupidity of this thread, i believe the first post shows the sort of person you have to be to think winmx is a load of rubbish - lol

Yeah BT and DC are dogpoo! Just a bust waiting to happen anyways. Winmx is where its at. Get in a good chat room and be happy.

I think that shows the livelyness of WinMx Psycho,.
Can BT boast a group of dedicated Programmers who enjoy making items to enhance the users enjoyment ?
Most of the add-ons are not in regard to the main client anyway, theres not much needed there, except a few security issues that I,m sure WinMx technologies will fix in the fullness of time .

Why do I bother Notbob ?
Well you wont believe this but I like helping folks , That means I am not too worried about any reward , I,m a sharer not a leech.

Yes, but not by the developers
Dazzle wrote:Can BT boast a group of dedicated Programmers who enjoy making items to enhance the users enjoyment ?

Yes! The Azureus developers, & the Shareaza team with at least 2-3 new alphas a week - though they still need to get some things right![/quote]
Dazzle wrote:Most of the add-ons are not in regard to the main client anyway,

I don't know about that, but I know that the most popular ones are!
Leechammer - acts as a queue manager as well as a leech controller.
The zero uploads patch - allows you to stop anyone from uploading unless you or leechammer starts them!
QuickMX - amplifies the WinMX searches; causing stress on the network!

you are guaranteed to run across a phalse file if you do a direct search for it. That is why the search by hash and find sources by hash functions are there. Most fakes that I ran into were either 65K p0rn site redirects, or some other conternt with the incorrect name. You need to know to look for the file size, time based on bitrate, etc,...

The technique I use to feel confident my downloads was to queue the file, then search for more sources by hash, then verify what file names the others were showing. Most people were very good about indicating the correct contents to help others identify the fakes.

I haven't had the disk space to download anything for several months, so it is possible the fakes have become more prevalent.

At the time I would run secondary since I was behind a firewall, I didn't control, but I did use SysInternals' TCPVIEW to see what primary host I was connected to. I found that some primaries were better than others and would jump until I was on one I recognized as being a node with decent bandwidth. Obviously stay away from primaries on the domains mentioned above.

Well I have actually seen that the most popular downloads are not those mentioned at all, they are room bots and secondary chat clients,
the 3rd party room servers are coming along nicely with a choice of four right now and Bendmx has made a welcome return also.

The most important peice of code is the secondary connection patch that WinMx Technologies fixed in the beta 4.
I wish that they would finalise that as a lot of folk are suffering in the meanwhile,
it has been tested and developed ok, just not deployed.
