Guide to eMule

This guide was taken from http://www.setbb.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=redduck666

Q: eMule is not working for me, I have no idea what I am doing or how anything works.

Q: Why are my download speeds so slow?

Well the first thing you need to do is (besides installing the latest version of eMule) download a server list at: http://ed2k.2x4u.de/index.html I would recommend the connect list for it seems to have better effects on my downloads when I download from those servers. Then once you have downloaded the file copy it to 'localdrive'\'programs folder'\eMule\Config. It will ask you to over right the old file, just click yes.

Next start up eMule, and before you do anything, go to "preferences" at the top. Then choose the "connection" tab:

Image

Now go to http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest and check your connection speed. Once you've got it, devide your download speed by 8 and write it in for "download capacity". (Diving by 8 simply converts bits to bytes) Then do the same with your upload speed and write it in for your "upload capacity". For "download limit' you should have no limit, for "upload limit' multiply your upload capacity by .8 (or in other words 80% of your upload capacity) and scroll to it in "upload limit". For networks, have both KAD and eD2k enabled. You may also want to set your Hard limit to 25000 and your Max Connection to 5000.

Image

Now go to the files tab. Here it's pretty simple. Who do you want to give access to see your files. I would recommend putting friends only (this way no one knows what you are sharing), NOTE: This does not mean they can't upload from you, just that they can't see the files you share. Also make sure you have a check by "Try transfer full chunks to uploads" and "watch clipboard for ed2k links".

Image

Now click apply and ok. Then click on the "KAD" tab at the very top of the screen. Click "bootstrap" and wait a few seconds till there is a green arrow at the bottom of the the page next to KAD saying connected.

Image

Now click "servers" at the very top. This is where you will choose which server to connect to. Choose one (if you downloaded the server list I mentioned, any of the servers should be a good choice). Now right click on the server, and choose "connect to selected server" Wait a few seconds until it writes out connected at the side, and there is another green arrow at the bottom. Also, see if it writes out High or Low ID at the side. If you get a Low ID then see here how to fix it http://www.emule-help.com/id.htm .

Image

Here you should see the files you are sharing. By the way, your default download and shared directory is 'localdisk'\'programs folder'\eMule\incoming. Select all your files, right click, and choose release as an upload priority. This means that if a person asks for that file he will instantly start downloading it.

Image

Here you can see your files being uploaded and downloaded. You should set your downloaded files to a High priority, by right clicking on them and selecting a priority.

Some info:

-eMule uses a Credit system, meaning when you upload to some one you gain credit with them. If you are downloading a file they have, you will move their queue faster depending on the amount of credit you have with the,.

-Be patient. It took me a week before I had speeds of 20kb/s.

-Try to leave eMule on overnight, or while your not home for a long time. This way you will have a better chance to get into somones queue.

-Try to share large files. ed2k network was meant for ISOs and Movies, not single MP3s (full albums are ok).

-Try not to search for files in the search interface given to you. ed2k is a great network because of its no fake file reputation and it's good hashes. If you check out http://www.setbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.ph ... redduck666 there should be sites where you can find hash links to movies and such. Just click on the link and if you have emule set up right it should add the file to your transfers.

Any other info or questions can probably be answered at http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/help.cgi?l=1
or
http://www.emule-help.com/index.htm

A list of other eD2K links site can be found here.

Great guide.

But could you please resize the images so the pages don't get off-set, plus it would look more professional. Thanks.

max connections = 5000 is totally wrong and dangerous.

The right value is 500, and not 5000.

it would be a nice idea to put more than one server.met. Ocbmaurice is one of the olders and "powerest" lists on the net.

Just to make sure if once one of them is down.

Last time i used Ocbmaurice's serverlists, GWB wasn't even elected (for the 1st time !).

I'm not going to recommend anything, i don't use myself.
If someone want's to use those lists anyway, please go ahead.

But do it at your own risk !
