The only reasonable guess is that they are under some sort of DDOS attack. Apparently, some are able to connect to one of the servers (bb9) but the network does, indeed, have a few servers other than the DonkeyServers left. The good news is that eMule has Kad, so even if all the servers are knocked out, eMule users can continue using their clients as per normal. It'll just be a little trickier to get connected on a fresh install is all.

There's only one thing I see happening if the ED2K network collapses, eMule users and ED2K client users will officially be disconnected from each other, causing two networks. Of course, we are a long way off from anything like this happening.

Currently, I have no further info at this time though.

Edit: Looking at my current ED2K static list, looks like a bunch of servers are down. I only have 15 more servers that are still functional at this time. :?

This is the reason why

I'm surprised the news admin on slyck hasn't posted this as it's very significant to the ed2k nework's future.

To remedy this, clear your server list, just delete the lot then add the ones in this list that are not pink http://gruk.org/list.php?sort=users, avoiding the couple of german ones.

The german IFPI branch is claiming responsibility for taking down several big servers placed in germany (sorry, news only in german):

http://www.ifpi.de/news/news-923.htm

Found via Heise:

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/96204

Maybe Heise will feature an english translation later on. Sorry, no specifics about the servers were given (maybe someone can guess by the court locations: Hamburg, Köln, Düsseldorf, Leipzig and Frankfurt).

Edit: Heise updated their article, in an interview the IFPI spokesman stated, that ""Donkey Server No. 1" to "Donkey Server No. 6"" have been taken down.

2nd Edit: Heise got some words from the server operator, he claims to have received "preliminary injunction" (hope the translation was correct), with a "amount of dispute" beeing 195000€/server on average. To avoid expenses (further injunctions ...), he took the servers temporarily down, until the issue resolves either by implementing filters (as stipulated by the IFPI) or a ruling in court. He further claims to have implemented such filters on notice of the IFPI lawyers, nevertheless they proceded by requesting (the granted) "preliminary injunctions".
