FunnyNick

Postby IceCube » Fri Mar 16, 2007 3:56 am

For a while now, I've been wondering where all these '[FunnyNick]' users come from. I finally went ahead and Googled it and found what appears to be a random name generator. Is this where all these users come from?

It's a feature of many eMule mods.
If the remote user doesn't have a nickname, eMule will generate a FunnyNick.

FunnyNick is generated from the cryptkey, so it's always the same for each user.

FunnyNick is used for clients that use default user names like 'emule-project.net'. Big advantage besides having something more entertaining that big amounts of 'emule-project.net' users is that you can easily identify these clients. Otherwise you'd always have to go to the client details and check the userhash.
