As a major distributor of legit content on the ED2K network, I find this remark offensive.

Couldn't it be distributed faster using BitTorrent? And lets face it, even with BT the overwhelming majority of downloads are of the pirated nature (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I am also part of a FOSS group and using ed2k for distribution.

napho you will find some of the major FOSS releases use both BT and ed2k for distribution to save server load. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Not everyone can get BT to work ed2k is the alternative.

napho provide the stats that prove what you are saying.

Long story short, there's no way in hell I can seed 600 files on BitTorrent with a 45kb/s up pipe at the same time. ;)

btw guys, I don't disapprove of piracy. That's the main thing I do online. I was just pointing out that people should just go along with the rules of someone's server, or try another. These debates about how no one has the right to tell me I can't use my beloved BitComet or Hybrid client are ridiculous. Just get what you want and shut up.
And yes, there IS legal stuff on the network.

Whether or not you disapprove is irrelivant. You made a blanket statement that is worthy of the RI/MPAA, BPI etc.

By the way you should never make that sort of admission on a public forum.

In the same way you feel you can dictate how the edonkey servers are run.

I feel that i have the right to dictate what you share.

You are ruining the edonkey network with your legal files. You could be using a webserver for that. Its legal. You can put them in plain sight in the public with no problems at all. And everything you share already has a website. You're craping up my search results up with useless stuff.

Back to the subject at hand... the initial report was true. Perform a search while connected to server number 1. It is indeed the legit IP address starting with 62 and your search results get flooded with the reported file... I'll get screenshots in a sec...

How to recreate the problem:

1. Leave protocol obfuscation off

2. Connect to 'DonkeyServer No1 (Yes, actually right click the server and hit connect to the clean server) (Screen shot 1)

3. Perform a regular search to get that 'flooding' effect (Screenshot 2)

You HAVE to note that performing a global search on a different clean server will NOT result in this occurring. You will remain unaffected by the measure put in place by the DonkeyServer.

Solution, of course, is to connect to a different server. I'll do another test to see if obfuscation makes a difference.
