Influx of users!

Postby IceCube » Fri Oct 06, 2006 8:50 pm

I have been trying to determine why there's this occasional influx of users on my queue list. Normally, I see about 30-60 user on my queue spread over a bunch of CC licensed files. Today, I saw my queue jump to over 130 all requesting the HD version of Elephants Dream. I figured that the hash link was posted somewhere online, but after some time spent on Google, I got a couple of sites that posted the links to it months ago, but nothing else. Is there other reasons why I get this influx of users on occasion?

It's happened befor, though that was about 220 users asking for various files - nothing specific. Bear in mind that I'm strictly uploading open content like Elephants Dream and Star Wreck.

...not that I mind a sudden rush of demand of course. It'll just take longer for users to download from me is all

I doubt it's the time of day. While I have noticed a time of day being a factor in this sort of thing, it has never been like this. The queue line has been like this all day! I saw the number and was like, "WTF???" and was shocked that half my line consisted of users requesting that specific movie.

Holy sh*t... it's gone UP to 150 and rising! I really should ask them... there has to be a rediculously popular site somewhere Google can't see that has the link posted. It doesn't make sense otherwise. I'll see if I can drum something up...

Edit: sheesh, it's making my 45kb/s up pipe look like banana jammed in a car exhaust right about now...

Edit: 160...

Edit: "Entered queue 3:27h"

Update: I may have found the culprit (can't be certain) The hash link was recently posted on cookemule2.com. Some foreign site that sounds popular. I don't know how popular as there's nothing that tells me this. Either way, it looks like a website with an assortment of different things. I'm just surupsed that a website I've never heard of before would have such a massive effect on my line (which keeps shifting between 140-160 now)

Thankfully, eMule users love to rename files in hashlinks when posting it on websites so I was able to finally track the site down. I'm still not completely convinced that this was the culprit, but it looks like it.

Edit: Yup, looks like it. The search for the site reveals too many results for it to not be popular. I guess I've been Cooked!

I wouldn't corrupt the file. I sometimes have only 4000 people in my list but occationally, I have seen it go to 29000 almost and as of the moment, it is at 27,311. I wouldn't really worry about it much.Sharing is caring. :D
