1TB Upload Barrier Broken on eMule (screenshots incl.!)

Postby IceCube » Sat Sep 23, 2006 3:42 am

Yup, the cumulative upload just rolled over to 1TB! :D

I'll be posting some screenshots tomorrow of some interesting statistics on both the legal files I was uploading as well as what clients were downloading from me, overhead statistics and even some time stats. I'd post them now, but I'm just heading off.

As I type this, apparently my cumulative share ratio dropped to 13.85:1 (U/D) :?

I hear Birk did some work on averages with clients and overhead, so I'd imagine people like him woudl be interested on some data from another actual file-sharer. :)

Yes, Scratch's music along with Irish's performances were up there in popularity.

Anyway, more to come... ;)

Icey doesn't get involved with anything you can't share legally. You must know that by now zim ;)
I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking, 'Did he use six superfluous adjectives or only five?' To tell the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement - but as I deal in English, the most powerful language in the world with subtle nuances that may blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' Well do you punk?

Cool, another "i have a bigger one than you".

I'm in.

Too bad i don't keep statistics.
Lets see.
Started uploading to the ed2k network in spring 2002, first with an 12 kB upload average, since autumn 2004 40 kB average. I'm online about 95% all the time.

That would be about:
24*3600 * 0.95 (30 * ( 9 + 12 + 9 ) * 12 +
30 * ( 3 + 12 + 9 ) * 40 ) = 3.250368 TB

Sounds about right.
Nice.

All legal stuff, of course. I swear.

PS: To all you lawyers: you couldn't proof otherwise anyway. 8)

LMFAO!!!!

And this isn't intended to be an "I'm better then you are" thread. It's more of a, "what happens if I upload a certain amount on a network with lots of clients? where woudl my data go via the mule? If I do this entirely legally, what the hell are people downloading??? Anyway, I'm tracking those screenshots down. I saved them, I just need a minute to remember where I saved them :?

Thanks everyone. Here's the screenshots (hope you don't mind the sidebar):

I don't know why other then being rather tired at the time, but some of the stats were cut off. I'll get a new one later:

Time statistic... maybe not quite as interesting:

And, of course, the moment you were waiting for. The files. The Scratch Attack package was done with enthusiastic permission, the remainder is strictly Creative Commons licensed material. I pieced together a series of screenshots into one pic of all the files that were uploaded enough to start measuring in Gigs. As you can see, it's sorted by most uploaded down (and yes, I even double-checked it to make doubly sure that there wasn't anything copyrighted even though I knew was sharing legal content):

Image

If you want hash links to any of the files you see, you can easily just go to http://content.emule-project.net All the files are verified legit there. 50 Foot Wave is the 4th (almost 3rd now) requested release. TWiT became one of the 20 most requested releases as well. It's fun knowning your connection is being put to really good use! :D

Upload overheard pic fixed. I shut eMule off at night and the previous screenshots were taken right befor I shut everything down for the night. As of now, it's been running 3:35 Hours, so it's not that bad really considering how long it took to get 1TB as it is.

Anyway, enjoy the collected data :)

Thanks, I'll keep hosting these things for as long as possible. Admittedly, there was one show (removed a long time ago) I found out went from completely legal to upload to pay copyrighted content. I was REALLY bummed out about that and removed it from my shared directory and the emule content database. I'm not exactly sure why it was changed in this way, but their decision cause an unknown number of people to suddenly have warez in their directories. I have my doubts they even know it either though I somehow doubt they'll go after people for sharing shows that used to be legit.

Edit: I also note that "thebroken_3.avi" was also renamed to something like "Hacking guide.avi" which may have given it some extra downloads. Either way, my version was correctly named though it did mess with my stats a little. Bloody annoying people renaming files incorrectly

What if you once had a pr0n video that entered the public domain due to theft of said video (and camcorder) in a burglary?

My stats only go back a month for some reason. Its been at least a year since I reinstalled XP and I installed Emule at that same time. Would unininstalling and reinstalling Emule reset the stats? I might've done that. I can't remember. I don't use Emule that much but somehow in a month have UL'ed 8 GB.

If WinMX kept these stats my Cumulative UL would be in the 100's of GB's if not TB's.

Installing through the .exe file will reset the stats. If you just update via the binaries everytime there's an upgrade, the stats continue and you'll only have to deal with re-inputting the static server list.

Of course, the only drawback is that if you put in the version number in that directory, you may end up leaving the name on there like I did and have something like 'eMule version 0.41' when really it's version 0.47c

It never has for me. Always updated with the .exe file, and my stats have never been reset (standing at 1.16TB upload).

However, uninstalling prior to installing a new version probably will reset them. You should just install on top of the old installation. That's doing an update.
