viper 5..

not a major mod. just adds source dropping and slot controls mostly.
got tired of sharing at 75k across 25 slots.. 75k across 2-4 slots works much better.

Yeah right

Besides shareaze is no emule mod but ugly hybrid.

Hm on the Shareaza board I rarely read anything good about the G1 support.

g1 is acceptable on shareaza... at best.
g2 is outstanding.
ed2k. joke.
bt. bad joke.

i too like banning shareaza ed2k users when i notice them.. :) always downloadin from me.. but i've NEVER seen one upload to me. EVER!

the credit system keeps them in check mostly. but i still like blocking them..

My cumulative stats disagree. I got 1.1% of my cumulative download from Shareaza and sent 1% of my cumulative upload to them. Evens out quite nicely for me even tho I often get the same impression as you if I just use the times I watch my up- and downloads as reference.

1.1% total recieved
7.4% total sent
1% loss for 7% savings if i ban them all.

you have nothing to gain from banning shareaza clients. 1% loss for 1% savings.

but 1 for 7... i still see the need to ban them. :) Lose 1%. Gain 6%... tis a good deal.

and edonkey.. 0% 0%. lol. since i went to kad only.

My stats show 0% upload to shareaza and 0,5% download
from them.

When you ban a client it doesn`t mean you can`t download from him :)
Especially when you use certain measures

Image

They are more willing to upload to one their kind ...

I'll second that. My stats:

Upload:

Clients
eMule: 1.22 TB (92.7%)
eD Hybrid: 20.12 GB (1.5%)
eDonkey: 332.96 MB (0.0%)
aMule: 12.45 GB (0.9%)
MLdonkey: 17.21 GB (1.3%)
Shareaza: 18.15 GB (1.3%)
eM Compat: 30.28 GB (2.2%)

Download:

Clients
eMule: 700.24 GB (88.6%)
eD Hybrid: 47.57 GB (6.0%)
eDonkey: 1.58 GB (0.2%)
aMule: 6.35 GB (0.8%)
MLdonkey: 7.34 GB (0.9%)
Shareaza: 11.37 GB (1.4%)
eM Compat: 15.80 GB (2.0%)
URL: 0 Bytes (0.0%)

Interesting that both Shareaza and the generic eD Hybrid actually upload more to me than I upload to them.

It doesn`t work this way

Rating
Initially each client on queue has a rating of 100. After that, multipliers are applied to it. Some of these are below 1, and will therefore decrease the rating, while others are above 1 and will increase the rating:

Banned
Modifier: x0
Banned users get no Rating and thus no upload slot.

IP blocking wouldn`t be effective anyway , because of dynamic IP`s of many clients.

thats why you ban the entire block.

xxx.xxx.0.0 thru xxx.xxx.255.255

and you are thinking of the auto ban built in to the client. i'm talking about banning their ip directly using the ipfilter.dat functions in emule. options/security/...

as in.. NEVER COMMUNICATE WITH THESE IPS. ever.

Okay , I get it now , you`re right.

I can`t help imagining sth like this:

Omfg , another shareaza leech , I will deal with you now ...

Many ISPs have a large number of IP blocks all spread out, so you won't catch dynamic IPs that way. You will catch a lot of innocent users in those filters though.

yep. it sure will.

But even then. the # of innocent users i block is far far FAR less than the # of innocent users being blocked by peer guardian ect...

and so far it hasnt hurt my speed any that i see.

Well we will not disagree on Peerguardian being a plague on p2p if that's what you are saying :P That program is absolutely horrible.

Anyway you can certainly block any IPs you want, but I fear for the scenario (probably already here due to exactly Peerguardian etc.) where networks like ed2k get fragmented and slowed down by these large and meaningless blocks.

With a block such as you outline you block 64516 IP adresses just to try and block one user of a specific mod/program you do not like. And that user is even fairly likely to get another IP you aren't blocking anyway. You will end up potentially blocking off millions of IPs (just 16 such blocks to get over 1 millon blocked IPs) just to try and keep those few users that take up a tiny percentage of your upload (and don't seem to be leechers anyway). THat just seems way out of proportion to me.

PostPosted: Thu May 25, 2006 1:32 pm

Yeah. I know. lol.

i usually only do the last block.. so i'm only blocking 254 innocent users each time. :)

i figure it doesnt matter. the tiny # i've blocked. with crap like peer guardian. and overzealous firewalls all over out there.

everyone wants great speeds. but they also lock their machines up tighter than a virgin and whine about speeds. its silly and pointless.

so i can be silly and pointless in my own ways and block people because its thursday.. it makes me feel better to see the crappy leechy client vanish.. lol. it still wont dent my speed the way the rise of the personal software firewall has tho.

It depends what list youre using , seen this one ?

TcE wrote:

Calling ANY mod "best ever made" is also a joke , it all depends on user requirements , hardware , OS etc.
There is no "best" mod.
Besides Xtreme has stupid feature - banning certain mods on base of their "string" , not only uneffective but also not very just , client might have bad features but when someone decides not to use them he will still be banned :?
Decision whether to ban someone or not should be based on behaviour not on "brand"

Oh yes , about shareaza uploading more than downloading ... it happens probably because it asks in 15 min periods by default , which is cause of ban even by original eMule client.

i dont use a premade list.

only 92 entrys on my blocklist so far. all put in by me.

sometimes i dont even ban them. sometimes i just remove the file they want.. put it back the next day or whenever.. lmao

that happens alot when i see people downloading from me at under 1k. when i know the slot is capable of putting out 15-25k.

too far, too slow, too something. wasting time that could be spent building credit with someone on a decent line.
