Decided to post some food for thought on the issue...

These stats are from me:

Shareaza Cumulative upload = 1.1%
Shareaza Cumulative download = 1.0%

Bearing in mind that I'm a heavy uploader of course... don't really download much these days other then indie stuff and whatnot.

other clients
eMule Cumulative upload = 88.2%
eMule Cumulative download = 85.0%

eDonkey Cululative upload = 0.1%
eDonkey Cululative download = 0.0% (8 megs, just rounded to zero still)

All in all, I don't really see any 'leech' clients and I'm set up for leeching to begin with. In total:
Uploaded data: 765.40GB
Downloaded Data: 51.26GB
UL:DL Ratio: 14.93:1 (dammit! I'm not at 15:1 yet! :( )

Oh yeah, and I'm still on the plain ol' eMule myself.

I've tried many mods, none of them impress me very much. I like NeoMule, the idea of protocol encryption for the ED2K network must scare the hell out of ISP's.

I wonder about Shareaza in comparison to eMule.

eMule connects to the ED2K network, no problems. It has peer exchange and Kad to find more sources.

Shareaza connects to the ED2K network, no problems(anymore). It has Gnutella and G2 to find more sources.

Source exchange and Kad are only between other eMule users. In theory the initial search of the ED2K network could yield every source found by source exchange and Kad without even using those protocol extensions.

Gnutella and G2 sources will always be 100% new. Shareaza can swarm between the 3 networks.

Hey Allied, since you're still using shareaza, could you tell me if Shareaza has gotten a good implementation of the G1 network yet? When I last tried Shareaza (a LONG time ago), I could connect to the G1 network, but all the sources were either G2, ED2K or BitTorrent users. Just wondering if you ever managed to download from any G1 users at all.

Do not connect to eD2k or download Bittorents with Shareaza, it is slow as hell  Just downloaded a movie from Shareaza Plus. 95% of the searches was Gnutella1 ;) The G2 speed is nice :)

I can connect easily enough to the Gnutella network with Shareaza. I remember a few years back finding neighbors was a bitch, I'd have to query the web caches.
But now without touching those advanced options I end up with 2 Gnutella neighbors within a few seconds.

I use Dazzle. And no it's not necessarily a leeching client (I upload 4:1 on just about every file I get using it), it's just really clever in it's uploading strategy.

I use MagicAngel. Best all around mod I could find that is based on MorphXT and has great antileech protection that's even more customizable than Xman's Xtreme mod. Stullemule is a close second and also based on MorphXT.

I use just the regular eMule client for an eMule mod, but I usually use Shareaza to download eDonkey files. eMule has a better search for the eDonkey network so I search and start the download with eMule. Then I import the download with Shareaza.

The queued length on eMule with KAD and Source Exchange is always very long, but on Shareaza it's always smaller because of the Gnutella and G2 sources. You get your download finished sooner.

Thanks. :D

NeoMule. It has the most options that I've ever seen on a eMule mod.

MorphXT

Because I like ninjas, and it has more useful options than stock eMule.
