France Becomes the Latest Country to Block The Pirate Bay

Postby sunnyd » Fri Dec 05, 2014 11:51 am

In a move that was somewhat expected, the French anti-piracy group SCPP, with backing from the music industry, has succeeded in their efforts in getting a Paris Court to rule in their favor and obtain an injunction to have access blocked to The Pirate Bay and all proxies and mirror sites. All of the French Internet service providers are required to comply with the court ruling.

The litigation began earlier this year in February, and includes over 2,000 music labels in addition to Warner, Universal and Sony.

According to a press release by Telecompaper, the SCPP association said the decision constitutes a new phase in the fight against music piracy and reinforces similar decisions in the EU and around the world.

Even with France added to the list of countries blocking everyone's favorite torrent site, we already know that the Pirate Bay still sails regardless of the blocks.

I am now seeing a count UP timer and a pirate flag on the http://www.thepiratebay.se site. Anyone else see that? What does it mean?
Kind regards, Tom

Hi tower

There has been some activity on the Pirate Bay domain (the .se), but nothing to imply that a return is absolutely imminent and we can plan on it. The clock timer that we are seeing is likely to be counting the time from when the raid took place. As in the past, they may have a plan, but we have to wait to see what it is. The image being displayed on the site is believed to represent a Hydra, which in Greek mythology is a many-headed serpent. This could imply several things, one of which could be a display of power, but again, we don't know for sure exactly what they are trying to tell us.

Stay tuned, and we'll update with any news when there is something to report on aside from the display that we see on the site right now.
