Film: Arsenic and Old Lace
Year: 1944
Director: Frank Capra
Starring: Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Raymond Massey (no, not Boris Karloff), Peter Lorre
Rating: 9+/10 - a true classic

i've been a big fan of grant for years, and this is one of his best. peter lorre is great in this too, in a very atypical role for him.

Film: Half Light
Year: 2006
Director: Craig Rosenberg
starring: Demi moore
Rating: 3/10

Beautiful locations, pretty well acted, predictable though and playing the the traditional formula of spooky films...lots of secrets and whispers and the heroine doing lots of irrational stupid things.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Film: Sunshine
Director: Danny Boyle

This movie would have been great if they hadnt tacked on the pointless scary man killing folk at the end and just stuck to the majestic tone of the first half.

I think I was expecting this to be something like Ice Age. It wasn't.

Animation is lacking detail, and I've no idea what the plot was because I lost interest after about half an hour and switched it off.

I loved the movie right up to the point where the guy starts killing everyone. It was simply not needed in this sort of film. It was more of a sci-fi drama up to that point, then someone must have said "Hey, teenagers like to watch people get killed, we need more of that".
In the special features one of the interviews says they modelled the awesome gold suits after Kenny from south park.

Office Space is a brilliant film, highly underrated by many.
And you should check out Cannibal: The Musical. Its a low budget film made by the creators of south park while they were at university. If you like their style of humour you'll love this film.

Film: Candyman
Director: Bernard Rose
Rating: 6/10...Its aged a bit since released, but still pretty good.

candyman is based on a clive barker story, and barker is a great writer, so it had a good start. personally, having recently re-read the story (when i first saw candyman, i didn't realize what the source was) i'd have to say it's not one of his best stories, and the movie is actually better than the story was.

small world - i just recorded candyman 2 last night. i'll probably watch it tonight.

it's rare that a movie is better than a book.. But that's how it is with Rum Punch made into the movie Jackie Brown.Reading the book was a waste of time.

agreed, it's very rare. as far as jackie brown, tho, i won't sign on. to me, it's pretty much just more of tarantino's violence for the sake of it. i am not a fan of tarantino - i consider him about as overrated as it gets, and there's something about him that bothers the hell out of me: he is clearly both fascinated by guns, and yet a total ignorant ass about them as well.

i watched jackie brown years ago on the recommendation of a friend, in spite of the trailer being a huge turn-0ff from the word go, due to the first thing it showed being someone firing some kind of semi-auto pistol. that was it - all you could see was the gun and the hand, no context whatsoever. and yet the studios felt seeing a disembodied hand firing a gun repeatedly was somehow worthy of drawing people into a theater. ya, cuz lord knows, that's something you never see in movies

Jackie Brown is Tarantino's least "Tarantino" style film. Far less violence than his others and focusing more on a few central cahracters rather than a more ensamble cast. Its not a brilliant film, but it doesnt deserve some of the comments it gets. Also, following up from Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction was always going to be damn near impossible to pull off.

Film: Hackers (1995)
Director: Who the fuck knows.
Rating: 3/10
Comments: Old school 90's technology galore! But actually a pretty shit film. You get a brief glimpse of Angelina jolie boobage though.
