As you can see, I don’t have much experience posting on Slyck – only reading, so I don’t know how posting here works. I tried to start a topic, and my post disappeared. I don’t think so, but maybe I violated some subtle rule and the mod deleted my post. Or maybe a technical problem killed the post. How do I find out what happened? Basically, I posted a news release http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/mow/news2005/mwangi.sen.pdf about a guy going to prison for selling DVDs . I could try the same post again, but it might be better to ask first.

I approved an article earlier, which was submitted by BasicTek - http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16335

This is the identical story to yours so I presume you came in slightly later, hence you didn't get the credit. But thanks anyway for your interest!
I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking, 'Did he use six superfluous adjectives or only five?' To tell the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement - but as I deal in English, the most powerful language in the world with subtle nuances that may blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' Well do you punk?

Actually in all fairness I saw the link on slyck. Then it was gone. I tried to reply but the link and post were removed I guess. So I submitted it later.

How do you qualify to be a moderator here? I've been wondering about that for a month now :?

simple: you don't. when there is need, ray and tom simply ask regular members who they think have the traits they are looking for.

Hey 2p, how come you are like the only mod active now? You are the only one catching us breaking rules and moving threads to the correct section. Pretty hardworking too :P

I guess that right now I'm the only one sufficiently bored with my day job...

also, I'm leaving the hard work to the others: can't really afford to spend time reading the news submissions or researching the terms for the dictionary, so all the back-office work is being done by the others; not to speak of writing new articles!

but hey! big brother is still watching... 8)

You may be watching, but I will never forget the support I got from you on the stupid african ipod debacle, I must admit that I really got support from the mods, and I appreciated that. You guys are not heavy-handed in the least, and that is what I love about this forum. There is enough freedom to express yourself, but good boundaries to keep the place respectable.

So, to Mrs. 2p, SlyckNick, SlyckScratch, Icecube and others... keep up the great work and thanks for helping make Slyck the great place that it is! :D

welcome, sikkuz, and thanks for wanting to contribute! :D I hope you will like this little place we have been given here and make the most of it. Unfortunately, you can't apply to be a mod here... it is the admins who offer.

There are myriads of other ways of contributing though: subimitting articles to other file-sharing news (you'll find guidelines in the appropriate section), responding to the requests for help that people make, submitting a guide or an article of your own creation for consideration by the team, keeping this place cheerful and friendly...

with time, it may happen though!

I will certainly not justify myself, I don't have any need to.

I tried to point you gently in the right direction over several issues: multiple postings in threads that have lain dormant for over 6 months, flippant references to recreational drug usage and as a result contributing to the need to lock a thread. Not bad for your first day

I accept that you're new, but you are not so naive as not to be able to set up an ava or a sig nor understand what thread you are posting in. And I find it hard to believe that you are so sensitive as to be offended by my constructive comments.

All I asked you to do was to play nicely to avoid finding yourself in trouble. Please do so.

I'd like to add that SiKKuZ_PHuKK has posted 30+ since joining today. I've seen 15 or more old threads revived for no reason. Several pointless threads started that were later locked. News threads derailed by pointless 4page quotes followed by incoherent sentences completely unrelated to the perspectivce topics. Several members have been caught off guard by this and responded. To me it just seems like posting for the heck of posting or perhaps to promo his sig. In a word SPAM.

EDIT: Oh and asked to be a mod about 4 times now

I concur with BasicTek on this - and I agree with SlyckNick - he knows what he is doing, and I believe that SiKKuZ_PHuKK is here merely to make trouble....

Yep, I think it is a bit optimistic expecting to be made a mod here given you have been a member less than 24 hours - let alone the matters surrounding your posts!!!!

If you wish to be taken seriously, then perhaps you may wish to think about contributing to our community. I'm sure a change of name may help you to be taken more seriously, for that matter.

As Mrs2P says, you have to earn respect over quite a period of time to be invited to join the team. I think you have quite a bit of work in front of you given your inauspicious start, and there are several eminently suitable members already in the queue before you.

I suggest that you spend time looking through threads to see how things should be done before jumping in and simply posting yourself.

right guys, since all agree and seem to be repeating each other, since there has been much discussion throughout the forums, and since there have been private dealings as well, I suggest we all.. dunno... stick to topic? just a wild idea...

I wonder what rule I busted this time?

I posted a thread where since I noticed that SD cards are now at 8 GB and soon expected to come in 16 GB and 32 GB versions this, then begs the question:

Why continue to use DVD burning when a credit card sized reader/player with dual SD slots can hold 64 GB from dual 32 GB SD cards?

And as far as DRM HD discs well SD cards seem to be the perfect work around for posting my own created material for distribution to others.

And the thread just went bye, bye.

Hey just wondering what rule I busted so that it does not become a repeat(noobs like me are stupid, but its no excuse). :?:
