Disappearing Avatars?

I've noticed several well-known posters' avatars disappearing over recent weeks and now mine has disappeared as well!

I believe its linked to the 9/11 conspiracy. Slyck posters were getting close to the truth and the only way to throw them off the trail is to get them worrying about their avatars.

then chances are the issue lies with imageshack, or whatever other image hosts are used. slyck does not store avatars locally. it only stores the link to wherever your image is hosted.

The address of where the image was stored has been deleted from my user preferences. The original was oversize so a member of staff shrunk it for me. I've now resubmitted but it's not exactly the same as before. I've no objection to changing it if someone prefers?

i see nothing wrong with your avatar.

but this is very strange. when i read the thread, your avatar was there. figuring it was a cache thing, i reloaded the page, at which point, it was gone. i then pulled up the properties of the missing image, and saw an imageshack URL. if the avatar had been removed by a staff member, i don't understand why i would see anything there.

or are you saying you removed it yourself, after the thread was posted?

They'll never get me. And I now know the truth and will be revealing it very soon.

I also use this avatar at another forum that does store them locally and I linked from there. I guess that's why I'm not having problems.

I once got banned from a forum for a week for hotlinking to a picture and the site owner put in code to replace all hotlinked images with Goatse (for those unaware of goatse, i highly suggest you continue living in ignorance of that one). That'll teach me to not preview my posts!

LOL! been a while since i've seen a goatse reference.

i have to confess to pulling a scam i first saw on bash. i set a chatroom topic to "Our hearts go out to the 17 victims of the recent internet scam". then, when some poor innocent person would ask what had happened, i'd provide a tinyurl pointing to goatse, telling them the full story is here. once they start screaming, the topic gets changed to "Our hearts go out to the 18 victims of the recent internet scam". it was well into the 50s before we let it go
