Ohh...new shiney forum, thanks to all for the hard work!

But I am really not digging the ava's on the wrong side, it's just is wrong. I get confused enough without people trying to assist in such matters. Index reference point on LEFT, Reading splurge on right of index point! Thats the rule's meng!

This was noted before... but wasn't attributed to the right reason.

Threads aren't being marked as read when you're session ends.

On another note, wth is "Enable word censoring:" under UCP > Boards Preferences > Edit display Options. Does it actually do anything?

actually, as far as i can see, the flagging is correct. the difference is that phpbb selected "unread" posts, and phpbb 3 is selecting "new" posts. if you look carefully, you'll see that unread posts are still properly identified by an extra icon link in front of them, and read posts don't have it. we are looking into solutions. i personally find the concept of treating "new" rather than "unread" posts differently to be... well... silly?

ps: we're still not sure exactly what criteria it uses to consider something new, either :?

oh, missed the censoring thing. once we get caught up on the major stuff, who knows, we might try experimenting with forum-wide censoring of certain universally hated words - u know, like norton and kazaa ;)

This new forum style is like a visit to bizzaro world. Up is down left is right avatars on the right?

Another thing I've noticed is links no longer automatically open in a new tab for me. I know i can set it up in FF or I can right click but I liked how they'd open in a new tab and when I was done with the article and closed it I would go back to the original tab. I'm one of those people that get a ton of tabs open at once so that was helpful.

omg MY EYES!!!!!!!!

seriously, any webmaster who doesn't test their design on a high-DPI LCD screen* deserves to be beaten with a wet haddock.

e.g. with a light background and size 10 text (or whatever it is), you need to SERIOUSLY contrast the colour of the text. or make it bold. or just bigger, for f#ck's sake.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give us:
- different colour schemes
- text size preference, if you (& the rest of the web) continue to refuse to give up on using pixels to define text size. 10 pixels may be a pleasantly legible size in that colour of text on that colour background on your screen but it sure as hell ain't on mine.
(I mean a preference for in-post text, so I don't have to use page zoom and expand all the other text too.)

BTW I'm only bitching coz I care. :D

*by a completely unrelated coincidence, my monitor is a high-DPI LCD screen. :P

See the printer icon towards the top right of the forums? See the envelope next to that? Have you tested the button next to that (the one with the 'A')? :)

I just noticed the exact minute you registered is shown. What's the point of that?

I'm surprised I regestered at 8:41 AM. I'm usually sleeping or at work at that time.

Edit: What happened to the 500+, 1000+, etc under your avatar? Thats the only reason I post here!! :P
I've been dying to get a 500+.:( I guess since it now shows your exact post count, that's not necessary. But didn't the
+indicator make you guys that had them feel special?

We could probably go back to the '+' rankings. They were removed for now simply because there was no quick way to remove the actual post-counts, which therefore made the rankings a little redundant.

Couldn't you enable the users to be able to add there own little tidbit under their avatar instead of the '+' ranking?

Any progress on this yet? Very annoying if you ask me.

Greetings -

We received a message this morning from a user who was trying to register here. It appears that a number of things were broken during the phpBB upgrade.

We had one of our engineers poke around, and found the following:

phpBB registration is broken. Go through Register -> Age Select -> I agree and you wind up at

ucp.php?mode=register&coppa=0

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes [1153]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

Usenet news server guide comment review doesn't work

http://www.slyck.com/ns.php?id=83

Usenet news server guide asks you to log in even when logged in. Log in first, then visit

http://www.slyck.com/ns.php?c=rate&id=83

Login and Register from News Server Guide doesn't work

http://www.slyck.com/ns.php?c=rate&id=83

(click login link or register link, dead link)

It was suggested that this is probably because the NSG was a "bolted on" addition to phpBB, so all the NSG issues are probably related.

User mentioned that mailto:ray@slyck.com was bouncing. The contact page doesn't have a contact web form. There doesn't appear to be a way to send messages unless you register, so we agreed to forward this on.

Thank you!
