Look at the thing next to the control panel. That'll tell you how many new messages you have. Clicking it will get you directly to your inbox. :)

Well, don't feel bad. Everything seems like it should be obvious after you found it, especially on these new forums. I spent over a week off and on trying to find every nook and cranny. A bunch of stuff has gotten overhauled between version 2 and version 3 of PHPBB so things are a lot different now. :)

Can we get some themes added, or if they are here already where would I find em? -- These shades of blue aren't my bag.

on the avatar settings doesn't work right with gifs... or mabey just my particular gif. Shouldn't the default value be null/null and not 100/100 or maybe that was just from imported settings from the old db.

Anyrate I got it sorted, image was distorted from being displayed at 100x100 instead of 60x60.

When clicking the "view new" button on the front page I'm getting the new ones plus a bunch(this morning it was 12) I've already read. The first time on the new forums I had 1000 new which is understandable, the next time I noticed it was giving me ones I'd previously read but didn't think much of it, never had this problem on the old board.

I like the avatars on the left. Naturally reading from left to right my eye wants to start there & honestly if I see certain avatars I'll tend to ignore the post. But instead when I have to glance right first I end up catching some of the idiotic statements I was trying to ignore.

lol... good thing I'm not using an avatar then. :P

I have an idea for creating a self-made one, but I don't really have the motivation at this point. Too many other things on my mind atm.

But about what everyone said with the avatars, I would also agree it looks a bit awkward to have the person's profile on the right. It's not really bad I suppose, just different. I think in Hebrew or Greek, the sentence is read from right to left, but most of us prefer brewed and geeky things anyway.

Btw, the Quote button didn't show up for me until I logged in, but I don't know if that was done on purpose or just an IE engine issue. No biggie though. Gets me good practice and gets my brain cells workin' to quote things manually.

First of all, thanks for the upgrade!

Second, apparently even though I'm logged into the site, submitting a news story doesn't show me as logged in at all. I'm listed as Anonymous. Could this be fixed at some point?

Thanks,
LJ

For us older guys...

I notice now that I need to move my chair a bit to the left now, and look slightly right to properly view the screen (with the ava's across the page.) That may merely be me, but it is uncomfortable and will result in my visiting here less.

OT, Ray, you studying to be an accountant or for your Series 7? Diluted EPS is basically the Murphy's law of stock analysis... didn't figure you for a financial wonk... :D

Fixed. Submissions will now enter properly, however, approvals are still on hold for another hour or so, so you won't see anything approved til then.

I saw that happen, but I believe the switchover is what caused that. The switchover also saw a post or two lost in transition. I forgot to mention that, but if you saw your post vanish that you posted on the last few moments before the transition, you might want to try re-posting it (particularly if it's important). There weren't that many that were lost, maybe two or three at most.

But during the transition, you might have read a post on the old forums, but when the new forums replaced the old ones, the posts you read during the transition moment was then put back into an 'unread' posts list even though you read them already.

At least, that's what I've observed.

Hmm wierd.. I noticed in one thread someone had the text : roll: (without the space) and as soon as I quoted said post the smilie then appeared as an emoticon.

The old shoutbox from the avatar contest is gone! So is the other one! Oh well.

I am also jumping on the bandwagon and am gonna bitch about the avatars on the right thing. Blah!

Otherwise, good work.

*Edit* OK, I do have an actual complaint. On a wide-screen monitor at higher resolutions there's a lot of white border and the actual board is crammed in the middle making it small and only taking up about 1/2 of the usable space. There is an adjustment for this in vB but I don't know about phpBB. Looks fine up to 1024 X 768 but the issue becomes more apparent with larger screens and higher resolutions.

Yeah I'm running 1680 x 1050 and there is a lot of unused white space. I also have to bitch about the avatars on the right, i feel like i'm reading backwards.

OMG the Forums have upgraded, the Avatars are on the otherside. and Mr Fred changed his avatar!

I'll get used to the new forum look and maybe the Avatars being on the wrong side. But how could Mr. Fred change his Avatar? I don't know If I'll ever get used to that. :P
