Why ads by Google?

Postby Allied » Sat Nov 26, 2005 11:14 pm

Ads by Google are great for sites. All they cost the end user is an extra second or 2.
But since Slyck is a filesharing site, we see filesharing ads. And the only filesharing devs paying for ads are scammers.

So why not use a different ad service.

Sites like NewzMonster, Torrentspy and P2PC have ads that are 99% clean.

The only ads I see are text ads on the bottom of the home page.

Then maybe slyck expects p2p users to have adblock on?

Then why have ads if nobody clicks them?

Personally I'm not bothered as I can't see them, but I understand why others want them removed. The new and naive to P2P don't get suckered been the main concern..

p2p newbies aren't necessary internet newbies. Those who use the internet enough would know about firefox, then know about adblock. Though they should already know about p2p too

And just because someone uses FF, don't expect them to use adblock. Sure, it's a great tool, but not everybody feels the need to use it.

Those who where pushed into leaving IE by friends may not even know FF can use extensions.

Should? Maybe. But do they know about P2P scams?

We could point to several instances on Slyck where people have fallen for scams... It isn't pretty.

No point reading rules if you dont register. Most people just read the news and the forum and don't register here. Put the link next to the ads and they will notice.
