Create a noob section

Postby Dog » Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:17 am

Create an area where noobs on Slyck can say Hi to others and the mods, admins, and the others can also welcome them. They'd feel more welcome to the forum and maybe even have more fun.

Good idea, as long as we don't call it The Noob Section. Some people might be offended/intimidated. Better to call it the "New to Slyck" section or something more politically correct.

How about the Slyck newbies club. Then it says on the bottom something like: Hello new users, come here and say hi to other fellow new users of Slyck. Have fun here  :D  :D . Something like that should be there.

I just prefer that we avoid the official use of the words "newbie" or "noob", so that people don't get intimidated. I prefer "New Users" or "New Members". They're both more inclusive terms that sound inviting, not demeaning.

That sounds like a job that which is already handled by the lounge. Some forums put their lounge on the top, as a welcome for the newbs. Here, the most valuable content of the site that draws in new members, the Slyck News, is on top.

Fair points.

I would like to see something like a "welcome to Slyck" button, where the forum rules could be reinforced together with a few pointers to things that we tend to take for granted - such as the search facility and so forth.
