Forum error?

I tried to post a newsworthy story in the More File-Sharing News section and got the message, "Sorry, but only moderators can post topics in this forum'.
I see two new threads started today by Anonymous. Why can guests post but not members? Is this an error?

ALL user submitted More File Sharing News stories come via that button. Including the Anonymous ones. They are then placed in a queue. The admins and/or mods then go through each submission checking for newsworthy stories and weeding out duplicates. Once a story is approved it is added to the forum but additionally it is transferred to the Slyck front page along with a summary. You can appreciate that you have to be careful what appears on your front page, hence the filtering.

On the front page you will see this below the Original News. That is where you can submit "More News". Just hit the "Submit News" button and off you go...

You cannot do so directly for the reasons Scratch pointed out.

It is a content management issue, and unless you want to see all sorts of nonsense or duplicates posted, the policy is the futhest thing from "silly".

I had been under the impression that the link was for the Slyck News section only but now I understand. Thanks for the quick response everyone! :D

I agree with the reasoning behind the way that it's done too. The News sections don't need to end up looking like the Lounge!

i agree the front page and news need to be filtered...

but its still a silly way to do it... ;)

forum needs to be more independant from the main news page...

We have 26 forums out of 30 that are independent of the front page. You can't find one to discuss what you want?

From my (admittedly blinkered) perspective, Slyck is primarily a P2P news site with the rest amounting to an extremely valuable bonus. As Tom says, the forums are plentiful and independent.

Editorial control is something that has to be expected, otherwise we see duplicate threads of the kind that have slipped through the net over the past couple of weeks or we could risk losing our objectivity. Common sense filtering, perhaps, censorship, never.

As a relatively new member of the team, my focus is to produce original Slyck material, and I get a lot of helpful input from the others.

Any article I submit is submitted for approval in much the same manner as any news item, although I have to say that editorial input has always been objective.

I think the approval system is good, it deals with the front page only and helps to keep us - and therefore Slyck - on track as a credible - dare I say reputable - source of news.

The submission makes an entry in the forum so the article can be discussed. How do you propose that should be improved?
