Top torrent sites / advertising / spyware / quality

Postby subbie » Mon Jun 27, 2005 9:01 am

Hello everybody,

I've been an avid file sharing user since its first days, and bittorrent is beautiful, unfortunately most sites are far from beautiful and people are trying hard to make a few bucks by abusing people's ignorance.

Slyck while being a great supporter of P2P and the P2P community and a great resource has fallen into this trap as well.

A fairly recent change in bittorrent site advertising is really pssing me personally off. People are starting to advertise SPYWARE left and right.

It started with banners about sceensavers, emoticons, smilies, weather tools and now we've reached almost the top.

Sites are actually providing DIRECT LINKS from their FRONT PAGE to one-click downloads of SPYWARE INFESTED SCREENSAVERS.

Ask yourself, why would these sites hurt their own communities? What's the deal here?

There's too much advertising on torrent sites, but I'm willing to accept it with the belief that people are marely trying to return whatever cash they've put into their own sites. But this is getting a little too much.

Sites infested with advertising and spyware -- isohunt, mininova, torrentspy are becoming unusable, they should be far from the TOP torrent sites. they SUCK. they advertise SPYWARE, Torrentspy in particular provides DIRECT DOWNLOADS to the above mentioned screensaver spyware.

Learn from excellent sites such as the recent newcomer http://www.seedler.org learn from old-timer http://www.thepiratebay.org Say no to crap and garbage. say no to spyware advertising.

So dear Slyck, please adjust your Top site lists accordingly, remove the crap for the sake of your own users and the community.

Thank you for listening to my rants ;)

hey subbie, we respect your opinion, but, please respect Slyck's... They may be aiming to bring up the smaller torrent sites, help them out a little...

If your looking only for the top torrent sites around, visit a site like www.torrentsites.org.

Don't bother putting down Slyck for just trying to help out a few other communities, why not thank them instead...

As the owner of a few sites, i know how hard it is to get started, im sure the torrent sites listed will be very thankful of Slyck, i know i would...

Knowone can make a torrent site toplist that pleases everyone.

There was a poll a while back here,
http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10532
Torrentspy
The Pirate bay
ISOhunt
The late BTEFnet
Mininova

Another list here,
http://www.p2pcore.com/torrents.php

and another one,
http://www.zeropaid.com/php/links/index.php?id=2

and another one,
http://www.p2pconsortium.com/index.php?act=links

The ads don't matter until they're popping up, making sound or adding a few seconds to the loading time.
If you're dumb enough to click an ad banner and download something, its your own fault.
It's not like any of these sites managa the ads personally. They're all done by ad services. Google Ad Sense, Cydoor, Double Click, etc...

I may have sounded upset (which I am) but I do respect Slyck's opinion.

What you are saying regarding the sites in this list is wrong, none of them are "small" and therefore Slyck doesn't need to help them.

Now what the other guy said that until ads become popups he doesn't care. Well, I do agree that popups are extremely annoying, but this guy certianly doesn't know anything about spyware, what it does to people's computers and how mysterious corporations controlling millions of computers just because ignorant people like the guys behind torrentspy and torrentreactor are helping them infect millions of machines with their garbage software.

So better read up and understand what kind of damage these "great" sites are doing to millions.
