k, the first phase of this is done. We have it dynamically generating a graph for the entire time period avg'd monthly.

The next phase will be to make all parts of the graph generating options user controlled. So the user will be able to choose the time period, frequency and more than one network at a time to display. Then we will launch this new feature of slyck. For now, play and let me know of any bugs...

Really ugly code but only had a few minutes before I had to leave:

Code: Select all

   $fp = @fopen("http://www.torrentspy.com", "r");
   if ( $fp ) {
      while (!feof($fp)) {
         $data .= @fread($fp, 4096);
      }
      @fclose($fp);

      $content = strip_tags($data);

      preg_match("/\((.*?) total/", $content, $match);
      $activeTorrents = $match[1];
      preg_match("/\)(.*?)seeders/", $content, $match);
      $seeders = $match[1];
      preg_match("/and (.*?) downloaders/", $content, $match);
      $downloaders = $match[1];
      preg_match("/son (.*?) known trackers/", $content, $match);
      $trackers = $match[1];

      print "Active Torrents: " . $activeTorrents . "<BR>";
      print "Seeders: " . $seeders . "<BR>";
      print "Downloaders: " . $downloaders . "<BR>";
      print "Trackers: " . $trackers . "<BR>";

   } else {
      print "Error connecting to torrentspy";
   }

Sorry if this sounds a dumb question, but could someone give me a rundown on how these usage stats are actually generated? It's probably been said before but I've looked over the forums and can't see an explanation. I'd especially like to know how stats for server-based networks like eDonkey2k are generated. Surely these can't be anywhere near accurate - even if you went around totalling the number of users on each server, some servers will surely be missed out, and these will be duplicates (people logged onto several servers at once).

Thanks!

eDonkey clients only log onto one server at a time so you don't need to worry about double counting. As for missing some servers, the only ones you can miss are private servers, and I don't really think those exist anymore for the most part. Either way if small servers are missed they aren't going to change the total population of the network by a significant amount.

But can't eMule clients log on to several servers at once?

I just checked the graphs and thought they must have been broken at first. I checked Filetopia first and found no data on the graph. Then I noticed that the numbers were too low! :oops:
My suggestion as a result would be to make the graph dynamically change to the range that the users is in! i.e show thousands for Filetopia instead of millions!

Just a suggestion, I know some may not look at the graph properly (like me) at first and think the numbers are huge for the small networks. However once they check the numbers on the left they will see the numbers!
Otherwise great to see Ray cheers for all the work mate! :D

Wow, nice idea. Would be nice to get some BT stats, though I don't know how that would be achieved.

As for the graph being dynamically rescaled.. Good idea. :)

It can't

This is a 9month old thread :x
I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking, 'Did he use six superfluous adjectives or only five?' To tell the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement - but as I deal in English, the most powerful language in the world with subtle nuances that may blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' Well do you punk?
