Packetnews ... where did it go?

Postby dazedandconfused » Sat Aug 02, 2008 1:48 pm

Yesterday, 1 August I visited (or tried to visit) the Packetnews website only to it unavailable. I tried again today to no avail.

Does anyone have any news on the current status of Packetnews.com?

Thanks ...

Agreed. After trying off-and-on for 36 hours it just came back up.

That site is misleading. Up and working are 2 different things. Packetnews is dead :( , but that site sees it as working because its domain owner is advertising for somebody to use it.

1 this article is old

2. packetnews.com and www. packetnews.com both lead to a generic search page looks like they did not work out or was small enough that copyright lawsuits was able to take them down.

lol heat. it worked fine a year and a half ago, i'm sure. the fact that the OP stated he was able to access the site again, 14 minutes after i made the post which bothered you so much you had to question it nearly 18 months later, would tend to confirm this :P

But what I said is happening now. PacketNews is actually gone but that site says its working. That site only considers if the domain resolves, which PacketNews does but only shows a web hosting search engine now. But you're right about the 18 month part. The site was still working then.

A few other IRC search sites are gone too. And apparently IRC filesharing is just an IRC geek thing again. Its been years since I've downloaded something via IRC. I get just about everything via Bit Torrent now.

I don't remember the AA's going after IRC filesharing. Or maybe its been so long I just forgot.
