alt.binz Intro and Installation
alt.binz stormed into the newsgroup community and quickly soared to popularity. With alt.binz, it's very easy for just about anyone to import NZB files and watch as the alt.binz news reader does all the work. If you don't know how the newsgroups work please take a look at our Guide to the Newsgroups
There are two versions of alt.binz available: free and premium. The free version encompasses all revisions and upgrades as of 2007, but hasn't been revised since. The premium version is frequently updated and revised, however, requires a donation to the developer. The benefit of the premium version is an array of bug fixes and upgrades, including a newsgroup search/browsing feature. If you're just looking to keep it simple, the older version works just fine.
alt.binz has a quick installation process that is just like any Windows program. The installation wizard will ask you where you want to install alt.binz, which is typically C:\Program Files\altbinz. Once that's done, however, there is no setup wizard that often accompanies many other news readers - alt.binz gets in your face immediately (see Figure 1). That also means you'll have to enter your server account information manually. But don't worry, we'll work you through it on the next page.
